To be good sheep to Jesus Christ and to be good shepherds to others. (John 10:11-18)
The dual call of Christian life is the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the discipleship of all people.
We recognize the fact that we are merely helpless sheep unless we are hearing and following our Good Shepherd with all of our hearts, minds and strengths. Just as the well-being of sheep is tied to their dependency on the shepherd, we confess our vulnerable, yet blessed position of being the flock of God.
We are not only sheep of Jesus Christ our Good Shepherd, but also His deputy shepherds to reach out to those outside of God’s sheep pen. As we experience His love and power for us, we are called to share the blessing and wisdom of our Savior and Lord with others.
We want to create a spiritual forest of multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational missional people in the DFW area. Just like a forest exists to provide shelter, nourishment, and habitat for animals, birds, fish, and even bugs, Forest Community Church exists to nourish people in God’s way, meaning that we want to grow God’s people in biblical discipleship and fellowship. Similar to de-forestation being a serious global and environmental problem, the increasing secular values of individualism and consumerism threaten our spiritual life as well as peaceful existence. We intend to become a healthy forest of individuals whose faith, commitment, and biblical values are interlocked like the roots of the Redwood Forest. As God’s forest in DFW, we want to seek the glory of Jesus Christ, save the lost, strengthen the saved, serve the needy, and send workers for global harvest.
The Four Legs of Our Mission Mobility
LIFT (Worship): We want to exalt the name of God through our corporate worship on the Lord’s Day. Our Sunday worship is the time for everyone, both young and old, seekers and believers, to reconnect with God and recommit our hearts to His will and mission. True worship is the greatest privilege that God endows on his children who were born again through the blood of Jesus. Corporate worship is our weekly refilling station that reignites our passion for God’s reign in the world by transforming every aspect of our life as a living sacrifice.
LEARN (Discipleship): We are both a teaching and a learning church, where every member takes classes and in turn teaches them to others. We call our educational ministry Good Shepherd College (GSC) because learning God’s word is not just an intellectual pursuit to satisfy one’s curiosity, but more of a spiritual preparation to shepherd others with God’s love and wisdom. Through the three year curriculum of GSC, we offer foundational classes on Sunday and advanced courses during the weekdays.
LOVE (Fellowship): We view weekly cell groups as the practicum of our discipleship. This is where we practice the Great Commandment of Christ (John 13:33-34), to love one another as our Lord loves us. Cell groups are more than a church program for small sized groups. Our cell groups are designed to discover various shepherds and develop their gifts in an intimate, prayerful environment of transparency, accountability, and intercession. Our Forest will grow deeply and extensively as our cell groups increase in their care and service for each other.
LEAD (Apostleship): We are committed to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-19). As our Lord sent his apostles to every corner of the world to make disciples, we are His 21st century servants called to share the Good News with everyone and serve the needy in the local and global community. As we partner with local, state, national and international mission agencies, we will select those mission organizations and missionaries who have personal relationships with our members. We want to extend the incarnation of
